Carbon FootPrint

All our actions, no matter how small, have an effect on a bigger scale. Everything we do and use requires energy to grow, create or ship, from what we eat to what we wear to the fuel for our vehicles. It also generates waste. All of this makes up our carbon footprint and affects our climate, leading to global warming.
To reduce its carbon footprint and lower its impact on the environment, Badia di Pomaio undertook a series of actions aimed at conserving resources and avoiding unnecessary wastage.

We recycle everything that can be recycled and limit our use of harmful materials, like plastic. Most of the vegetables, fruits and herbs the restaurant uses are grown on our own territory and we buy the rest locally, which has the double advantage of cutting down on transport pollution and supporting local businesses.

We produce renewable energy using a system of solar panels and we receive fresh, clean water from our own well, both actions that allow us to conserve energy and preserve groundwater reserves. Our waste is converted into either food for our animals or biological fertilizer for our vegetable garden.

Beside reducing the degradation of our environment and lowering the levels of pollution, these practices also have a positive effect on our health. The air at Badia di Pomaio is clean and fresh – thanks not only to the massive presence of trees, but to our own actions, as well – and the water is free of chemicals and naturally filtered.
